List of Charmed books

''Charmed'' novels are a series of fiction based on the American television series of the same name.
Between 1999 and 2008, forty-three novels were published by Simon & Schuster and were roughly set during the same period as the events of the television series. The first novel, ''The Power of Three'', was released in November 1999 as a novelization of the series premiere episode, "Something Wicca This Way Comes", and introduces the Charmed Ones – Prue, Piper, and Phoebe Halliwell – as the most powerful witches of all time.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=The Power of Three )〕 All subsequent novels are original stories revolving around the Charmed Ones and their allies, apart from ''Charmed Again'' (2001) which narrates the events of the two-part episode of the same name and introduces Paige Matthews as the youngest member of the coven following Prue's murder.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Charmed Again (Charmed) )〕 The first ten novels involve the Halliwell sisters, while the remaining thirty-three are set after the "Power of Three" is reconstituted as Piper, Phoebe, and Paige. Two novels, ''Seasons of the Witch'' (2003) and ''The Warren Witches'' (2005), are anthologies of short stories.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Seasons of the Witch: Volume 1 )〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=The Warren Witches )〕 Writers of the series include Diana G. Gallagher and Paul Ruditis who also co-authored two volumes of the official guidebook, ''The Book of Three'' (2004; 2006).
In 2015, HarperCollins acquired the rights to publish a second series of ''Charmed'' novels from CBS Consumer Products which owns the rights to the franchise. The first novel, ''The War on Witches'', was published in May 2015 and the continuity of the narrative fits between the events of ''Charmed: Season 9'' (2010-12) and ''Season 10'' (2014–) of the comic book series. It is written by Ruditis, who previously authored ''Season 9'' and edited ''Season 10'', and details the younger Charmed Ones' reunions with both Prue and the former-demon Cole Turner following their resurrections in ''Season 9''.
==Continuity==
The novels are set in the fictional "''Charmed'' universe", alongside events of the television and comic series. Although issues of continuity and canonicity are complex, writers of all officially-licensed literature on ''Charmed'' must gain studio approval on the content of the works – previously from Paramount Pictures until CBS Consumer Products acquired the rights to the franchise – in order to adhere to the conventions of the ''Charmed'' canon established by the television series.〔〔Haag, Andrea V., "(Interview with Diana G. Gallagher )", ''CharmedOnes.com'' (fansite), February 2002〕 According to Ruditis, authors of ''Charmed'' novels and comics must maintain 'the rules for playing in that universe' and '()he studio still has to approve the direction we take' as writers.〔 Following these 'rules', authors are given creative licence but strictly 'couldn't go and rewrite history, killing off established characters or suddenly creating romantic pairings that we'd never see on the show'.〔 Pat Shand, writer of ''Season 10'', considers the novels and comics officially part of the ''Charmed'' canon and continuity.〔 According to this continuity, the novel ''The War on Witches'' (2015) is set after the final episode, "Forever Charmed" (2006), and between the events of ''Charmed: Season 9'' and ''Season 10'' of the comic book series.〔〔
When depicting the character Tyler Michaels in ''Season 10'' – a firestarter who first appeared in the fourth season episode "Lost and Bound" – Shand consulted Ruditis on the latter's representation of the character in the novel ''The Brewing Storm'' (2004) to avoid inconsistencies or 'retreading'.
